...And with money came political clout. To freeze the pension contribution of a highway patrolman is a mortal sin; but no one worries much about the private security’s guard minimum wage and zero retirement, whose nightly duties are often just as dangerous. The former is sacrosanct; the latter a mere loser. ...

Ward, however, said he didn't care about being sent to prison for life as Cartwright lectured the 23-year-old.
"Can you hurry up, 'cause I don't care," Ward said as Cartwright spoke.
Ward was found guilty of a special circumstances murder for killing Michael Schenk, 31, during a robbery. Ward devised a plan to rob Schenk, a pimp, with his girlfriend, Gequesha Nolan, 22, who was also a prostitute.
The killing occurred on Oct. 5, 2011, as Schenk sat in his car on Favor Street. Nolan took a plea deal in which she admitted committing second-degree murder and was sentenced to 15 years to life Friday.
Ward, however, was not offered a deal, and a jury found him guilty in less than two hours after a weeklong trial....

“Never call an unarmed man ‘security’,” Grossman said.
“Call him ‘run-like-hell-when-the-man-with-the-gun-shows-up’ but never call an unarmed man security.
"Imagine if someone said, ‘I want a trained fire professional on site. I want a fire hat, I want a fire uniform, I want a fire badge. But! No fire extinguishers in this building. No fire hoses. The hat, the badge, the uniform — that will keep us safe — but we have no need for fire extinguishers.’ Well, that would be insane. It is equally insane, delusional, legally liable, to say, ‘I want a trained security professional on site. I want a security hat, I want a security uniform, and I want a security badge, but I don’t want a gun.’ It’s not the hat, the uniform, or the badge. It’s the tools in the hands of a trained professional that keeps us safe.

...When I carry a gun, I don’t do so because I am looking for a fight, but because I’m looking to be left alone.
The gun at my side means that I cannot be forced, only persuaded.
I don’t carry it because I’m afraid, but because it enables me to be unafraid.
It doesn’t limit the actions of those who would interact with me through reason, only the actions of those who would do so by force.
It removes force from the equation... and that’s why carrying a gun is a civilized act.

Grossman: Wolves and sheepdogs alike scare the sheep because they both bear the same fangs. The fangs are the equalizer. Implicit in this model is the understanding that any sheepdog without a gun has chosen to make him or herself, at least for that day, a sheep. Having the training and the will without the means still renders you powerless, when faced with a violent moment of truth.

libertarianism is the idea that people should be as free as possible from state coercion so long as they don’t harm anyone. The job of the state is limited to fighting crime, providing for the common defense, and protecting the rights and contracts of citizens. The individual is sovereign, he is the captain of himself.

No one thought that the authorities of your state would pass laws making criminals out of the previously law-abiding -- but they did. If they catch you violating their unconstitutional laws, they will -- when they please -- send armed men to work their will upon you. And people -- innocent of any crime save the one these tyrants created -- will die resisting them. -- Mike Vanderboegh, Hartford CT, 20 April 2013.

Stories continue of course 'cause we just be humans
Arrogant maintenance tech from property owner comes in and dismisses staff reports of various problems saying he'll find the problems and fix them.
1. Replaces every other light bulb along the perimeter...except that those lights were on a separate circuit disconnected to save electricity.
2. The windows blind pull chains were broken. He "fixed" them. Ah, except that he mis-installed them so the blinds no longer work at all.
"I come, I destroy BWAHAHAHA, I'm your maintenance technician!!!"
Customer wants to impress his little friend and so steps into me (10" between our faces) and proceeds to ask me grooming questions while he assumes the text book "Jack Benny" pre-attack/defensive posture. (http://www.themartialist.com/pecom/attackproof.htm)
The confusion in his eyes is priceless when I exactly mirror the stance and answer his pickup line with my fear that hippos have seized control of the government.
Customers who tell the clerks: "I have no ID but I was in here last month, you must remember me!!!!11!!
Yeah, 5,000 customers since then but YOU we will never forget...I still dream of you, not.
Local online government salary database has the new fascist moron cop on our beat as making over $55,000.00/year and $35,000 in OT. He explained to me once that he was the only one on the beat with the training (6 months!) and experience (2 years!) to protect us. Thanks, big guy!
Hep Me, Hep Me:
I am trying to find the single right word for a character trait that combines arrogance, narcissism, temerity, presumption, impertinence, rudeness, condescension, manipulation, impudence, sociopathy and stupidity. I ask because this word I seek defines a most common trait I see in the government and corporate "rulers" and many of my fellow citizen/serfs. I use "arrogant stupidity" but that seems inadequate...and its two words. A$$h0le is not sufficiently specific. Ideas? ... Hello, anyone there??
